We hear a lot of talk about love this time of year because of Valentine’s Day. And in going with that theme, today for the Impact devotional, we’re going to talk about love in dating and marriage. Now for a culture that is surrounded with divorce, that may not be so shocking, but when you see the heart-ache and pain that divorce brings to both individuals and families, you can understand why this epidemic is such a tragedy. But fortunately for us, this is a tragedy that can be largely avoided. Now while many of us today aren’t planning on being married in a year or two, the choices we make today do influence the type of marriage we’ll have in ten, twenty, and hopefully fifty years from now. If you talk to any couple who has been happily married for a while, they’ll tell you that marriage is hard work and is not something that should be taken lightly.

Now I know that writing this is not going to change a thing. Believe it or not, most men do not lie in order to get sex. First of all, here was the premise of my original post:

While statistics reveal a steady increase in divorce rates, it wasn’t until the 70s that divorce became statistically prevalent. United States Divorce Rates Through History According to nationally published statistics, divorce rates have climbed steadily during the last years.

No other tactic has a greater failure rate in creating stable marriages and families than Western-style dating, a method that only excels in finding short-term sexual partners. Before writing off dating completely, we have to first define what a relationship success story looks like. How many people do you know who have been happily married for at least ten years? Now how many people do you know who have not been married for ten years and who likely have no hope for that outcome in the next decade?

Unless you are a part of a religious community, I predict that you know far more people who have absolutely nothing to show for their dozens or hundreds of dates and hookups. If dating was an experimental drug intended to treat cancer, the experiment would stop halfway through because of how disastrous it is on the patient. Randomly opening a phone book and marrying the first opposite sex name you come across would have the same success rate, assuming there is mutual physical attraction.

There is nothing within our DNA that allows us to successfully sample a hundred or more people, often sexually, to find love or compatibility without also succumbing to hedonism, self-harm, alcohol abuse, or outright sterility through the contraction of STDs. This is no surprise upon realizing that dating in the West began with 19th century prostitutes and homosexuals to later be normalized for everyone without having to prove its utility.

It was never intended as a way for heterosexuals to find long-term partners, and any culture that has implemented it has suffered both lowered marriage and birth rates. Dating is merely a technique for gaining sex, not relationships.

One common explanation is that a significant number of people enter a second or marriage ‘on the rebound’ of a first or second divorce. Often the people concerned are vulnerable ; they do not allow sufficient time to recover from their divorce or to get their priorities straight before taking their vows again. They enter their next marriage for the wrong reasons, not having internalized the lessons of their past experience.

They are liable to repeat their mistakes, making them susceptible to similar conflicts and another broken marriage follows.

A study published in the journal of British Association of Urological Surgeons found that traction methods were most effective in extending length.

However it found that surgical procedures can be dangerous and have an ‘unacceptably high’ rate of complications. The pair examined literature on both surgical and non-surgical methods for so called ‘male enhancement’ and found ten relevant studies. Half reported on surgical techniques performed on men, while the others discussed non-invasive methods used by men. One study of the traction method reported an average increase of 1. Another reported that the penis measured an extra 2.

Other methods the scientists investigated included a ‘penis pump’ which uses a vacuum to stretch the organ. The researchers said that the use of the pump was found to be effective if used for a six month period.
